Gyan Vriksha: New TV Channel Launched By Assam Government

Educational Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has today launched a new television channel ‘Gyan Vriksha’ - জ্ঞান বৃক্ষ, under Assam Government’s Samagra Shiksha Mission. The channel, which will be available on cable, will be used for academic as well as competitive skill development of the students.

The channel, according to the minister will “replicate traditional classes.” He asked all the students to view the channel regularly and attend the live classes and note down important point from TV classes.

He said, “In the channel, study material for different classes will be provided according to the academic calendar.” 


The channel, initially to be operated through cable network, would be gradually broadcast through the DTH operators in a phased manner.

The minister also informed that the channel will be available only in Assamese as of now. He thanked Sanjive Narain, the proprietor of Prag News for assisting Assam Govt. in bringing this channel.

Mr. Sharma further advised students to learn from Biswa Vidya YouTube channel and app, during the COVID-19 lockdown.

“We are working to develop Assamese, Bangla, and Bodo content for different digital and radio platforms. We have already uploaded different courses in Ministry of Human Resource Development’s DIKSHA app,” Mr. Sarma informed.

According to the minister, more than 3,50,000 students have downloaded the DIKSHA app during the COVID-19 lockdown.
